I had a conversation with our director of nursing today, a follow up to an email that I sent him regarding my interpretation of the RE policy. He went to HR for clarification, and with a look of regret, informed me today that I was in fact correct. If I were to obtain a RE, I would NOT be permitted to continue to work in my current position. (PCU RN) I asked what exactly did the policy mean by “accommodations”, I was told that it meant that the hospital would help to find positions internally to prevent us from losing all of our income. When I asked for examples, he said, “maybe making pre-surgical screening calls, or food service”…..I know how I feel about all of this, so I will stop there, but I just want to pass this along so all of you have the same information. If anyone was scratching their heads over the wording of that policy, there you have it.

The university students were the hardest hit. There was backlash and protests and I believe they are allowing salivary testing onsite now. What is the consensus on those? I must say I’m shocked how the general population just slapped on the vaseline no questions asked. Testing is said to be at the testees expense starting October 1st. @50 bucks every two days… What a nightmare. I’m at URMC and have a med exemption. The first test was fine. When I went this past week, after waiting in line for 35 minutes, the nurse was so aggressive. I could feel it for the next three days. Yes I tested once and had my nose run for 5 days. My nose bled during collection. I’m filing an exemption request Thursday. I’m working on it tomorrow. I was told I need a medical exemption for the test. (I tried looking for lab tests of the swabs to prove levels of eo and hydrogel. I’m 2 hours and counting without much luck. I’m filing with whatever I have on Thursday. If you can find any proof (actual test result, peer reviewed paper) please let me know.

It is your medical information that is already known by everyone else because you are being singled out to be tested. I have heard the same that they are going really deep and hurting people. I work per diem. I was told if I get called in, I can work the entire morning seeing patient’s and get tested on my lunch hour then continue seeing patient’s until my results come in.

Teachers who have put years of experience and education into their practice. My own children are losing 2 teachers each. Irreplaceable teachers. They have all been given notice that they will be placed on unpaid leave until the end of the year (fired…and will not qualify for unemployment benefits).AND their teaching license will not be released by these districts for 60 days. So even if a district did allow exemptions, they still would be unable to legally teach here for that time. The districts are punishing our teachers for failing to comply by removing their livihoods (I believe it is Oregon’s way of ridding the schools of religious conservatives, by not allowing for accommodations for religious exemptions…all the teachers I know who have been fired, fall into this category.)And, this is why Oregon ranks so low in education. It is never about the kids. It is about control.I have no words. I have such anxiety for this next week. We are losing teachers, EAs, food services, bus drivers…I am in such shock for what is to be, truly, my darkest days in education.
