I have received a few messages from people stating they asked their childrens teachers and their district offices about the “Condom Relay” and “Condom Negotiation” activities we have mentioned as well as the normalization of oral and anal sex and the repeated mention of masturbation and sexual pleasure throughout the sex Ed curriculums. According to the parents, they were told that we are “misinformed” and another teacher stated we were making up “crazy claims” which were “simply untrue”.

I understand that these teachers and staff members may not want to believe that something as inappropriate as these activities would be recommended by the California Department of Education since many of us parents were also in disbelief when we found out. I also understand that the district staff and teachers may not have had the time to do the research several of us parents have in order to find this information. I also understand that not every school decided to use these activities.

That being said, the fact that some teachers and district staff have not seen these activities or lessons themselves does not mean they do not exist nor that they are not being used in other schools. Each district gets to select the curriculum that they would like to adopt and each curriculum may be tailored by staff members in order to take their communities needs into consideration. Although tailoring the curriculum may be a way to eliminate SOME of the inappropriate material, I have yet to see a curriculum which does not include concerning information or activities.

After spending approx a year reviewing the new framework, recommended resources, recommended websites, and assignments, I more than ever believe that parents should take full control of talking to their children about sex themselves and opt-out of ANY and EVERY sex ed curriculum the state of California may recommend.

I will attach photos of some of the assignments and lessons many parents were told do not exist. I found these lessons through out the several different sex ed curriculums I reviewed and were approved by the California Department of Education. Some schools are using these activities, some decided not to use them and other schools have not seen these.

NWEA + Khan teaming up for SEL and CBE .

Two high-profile education organizations—Khan Academy and NWEA—are piloting a new tool designed to match a student’s test results with online instructional materials recommended to help that student learn a given subject in school.

Called the MAP Accelerator, the new platform will pair findings from a student’s performance on the NWEA‘s MAP Growth Assessments with Khan Academy resources to address the specific skills a student needs to master in his or her learning progression.

Teachers will receive the recommendations based on each student’s MAP Growth results and will be able to choose which assignments to make, given the learning opportunities identified. The assessment is typically given three times a year: at the beginning of school, in the middle and at the end.

More than 150,000 students in four school districts will begin a pilot of the MAP Accelerator in math in English and Spanish for grades 3-8 in September, including the Clark County School District in Nevada, according to the organizations. The first pilot test will last one year, and English/language arts will be introduced as a new pilot for the 2020-21 school year.

MAP Growth, which was released for K-12 in 2001, is an adaptive assessment that helps identify where a student is on a learning pathway. NWEA sees matching Khan Academy resources with its assessment as an opportunity to help teachers faced with students’ diverse academic needs, said Chris Minnich, the CEO of NWEA.

“We’re taking the guesswork out of it for teachers. We want to empower them to have ‘what’s next’ for students,” he said.

“Students will have a personalized course based on their MAP Growth work, and we’ll use the mastery mechanics of skills-based practices, unit tests, and course challenges,” said Sal Khan, the founder of Khan Academy.

The organizations are recommending that the platform be used 30 minutes a week to make a difference, and they say it can work in conjunction with any curriculum schools are using. By identifying gaps in a student’s learning, and pairing them with practice, the program aims to allow students to tackle “far more questions in their zone of proximal development than they’re typically able to do,” Khan said.

Educators have the final say on which assignments students receive based on their assessment results.

Besides Clark County in Nevada, the districts that will pilot the program are three in California: Madera, Pajaro, and Glendale County.

Khan said the idea of combining NWEA’s assessments with his organization’s learning resources came in a casual conversation with an ed-tech investor friend who said that companies had been pitching him on “the Khan Academy narrative around personalization and differentiation.” That investor suggested Khan speak with NWEA about a possible partnership between the two non-profits. Khan was familiar with the MAP assessments because they had been used as a measurement tool in his organization’s previous efficacy studies. A week later Khan reached out to Minnich.

“We talked about how tests really aren’t going to move the needle for kids; tests themselves don’t teach kids anything,” said Minnich. “We’ve got to make connections.”

The two groups are interested in serving “the most marginalized students in America,” said Khan. “You could be Superman or Superwoman as a teacher, but when you have 30 to 35 kids and a lot of them have gaps from two, three or four years ago, there’s no way to address those gaps … that is not incredibly resource-intensive.”

A focus on efficacy will drive the pilot, Khan said. “We want to be as transparent as possible. If it doesn’t work, I don’t want anyone using it,” he said. Their focus will be on, “How can we get better by looking at those efficacy results?”

Khan said he has had 70 percent of his 210-person organization working on the integration of Khan Academy resources with NWEA’s assessment indicators for the past year. “District rostering alone is very complex,” he said.

As for implementation, he believes that NWEA’s large district support and training staff will help teachers understand how they can implement the accelerator.

What does your face reveal about how big of a financial risk you are?

One of the world’s largest insurers thinks the answer is quite a bit. It is using facial-recognition technology on potential customers as part of its efforts to assess risk when it sells them financial products

Ping An Insurance Group Co., China’s largest insurer and one of the country’s largest financial conglomerates, routinely scans the faces of customers and its own agents to verify their identities or examine their expressions for clues about their truthfulness.

Since 2016, the company has used its proprietary technology to screen individuals applying for loans at its consumer-finance arm. “Micro expressions,” or brief, small and often involuntary movements on people’s faces, are one area of focus the company has been analyzing.
The efforts are a reflection of what’s going on throughout China, where facial-recognition technology has become a feature of daily life. Unfettered by regulations or privacy concerns, Chinese authorities use it on public streets, subway stations, at airports and at border controls.
Chinese insurance companies may face fewer privacy concerns from consumers, compared with their Western counterparts, says Tjun Tang, a Boston Consulting Group senior partner in Hong Kong, though he adds that Chinese consumers are becoming more concerned about privacy in recent years. “If the consumers are willing to share the data, that’s helping a lot,” he says. “It allows machines to learn.”
Ping An uses its facial-recognition technology mainly to verify customers’ identities. When people open accounts with the insurer, they are often asked to submit images of their identity cards and complete a series of tasks including opening their mouths and blinking when they use the company’s facial-recognition program for the first time.
After setting up the accounts, customers can purchase some life- and health-insurance products after scanning their faces with their smartphones. They can also connect directly with insurance agents in video meetings or submit claims after Ping An’s software recognizes their faces.

Shi Haojing, a 28-year-old airport worker in Shanghai, says she scans her face with her smartphone camera when she needs to speak with an insurance agent and collect or make payments on her Ping An policies.

“It is good that things can be done without leaving home,” she says. “Everyone is getting lazier.”

Ping An also uses the technology in its insurance business to gauge customers’ health. In one new application, facial scans are used to estimate the body-mass index, or BMI, of customers who want to purchase a policy that makes lump-sum payouts of up to one million yuan (about $145,000) when they are diagnosed with any of 100 critical diseases. Policyholders get discounts on their monthly premiums based on how much body fat they have, as calculated by the scan. Individuals judged to have a BMI under 30 can receive a monthly discount of 6 yuan (about $0.87) on the product, which the company sells at a starting price of 30 yuan a month. A BMI of 30 or higher is considered obese.

“Just the face itself contains a wealth of information about an individual’s health,” says Michael Powers, a professor of risk mathematics at Tsinghua University in Beijing. It may be possible to glean from a person’s face whether the individual is a smoker, for example, he says. But such use of facial-recognition technology hasn’t yet been commercialized widely, in part because there are concerns it could be used to discriminate against some groups of people.

Some critics say the technology isn’t really being used to set prices for different groups but instead is a kind of marketing tool for the company to generate attention and make consumers more familiar with AI.

Cliff Sheng, a Hong Kong-based partner at consulting firm Oliver Wyman who has closely studied uses of technology by Chinese insurance companies, argues that there are more reliable ways than facial recognition to acquire users’ BMI. However, Mr. Sheng does say he thinks that the technology can be useful to insurers as a marketing tool because it gets people’s attention.

A spokesperson for Ping An says that its BMI-measuring feature using facial recognition is provided to the consumers as “a benefit,” and that its underwriting process takes into account a variety of other factors and data points.

In its lending business, meanwhile, Ping An says it uses its technology to analyze the faces of loan applicants in real time, searching for “micro-expressions” that reveal their emotional and psychological state. Such expressions typically occur within fractions of seconds and are hard for people to control, and loan officers make more accurate judgments on the applicants’ credibility based on this information, according to an article posted by Ping An on its official WeChat social-media account in China last year.

For large loans, applicants often have to answer questions in an online video meeting that typically lasts 10 to 15 minutes. Ping An records and analyzes how the applicant answers questions, and looks for signs of eye-shifting or other suspicious behavior, which would be flagged by its system.

Ping An in January said it has made more than 500 billion yuan worth of loans with the help of its micro-expression technology. It also said the technology has helped shorten its average loan-approval times to two hours from five days.

ANALYSIS/OPINION:

The state knows better how to raise your children than you do. That was the clear message sent by Colorado legislators during this contentious legislative session.

Bill after bill, many of which were written by special interest groups like Planned Parenthood and One Colorado, sought to strip rights and responsibilities from parents and hand them to the state.

Take for instance one of the most contentious bills on comprehensive sex education. Since 2013, the state of Colorado has defined comprehensive sex education and forced any district teaching sex education to do so in line with Colorado’s newfound progressive agenda. This legislative session, they further expanded the definition of comprehensive sex education to embrace LGBTQ perspectives while attempting to specifically ban religious perspectives. You read this correctly, the legislature sought to solidify in statute the specific banning of religious perspectives when it comes to teaching human sexuality. Teachings like chastity before marriage, monogamy, and the importance of a both a mother and father, were sidelined because of their religious foundations.

The 2019 comprehensive sex education bill, written by Planned Parenthood, was a violation of religious freedom and parental rights.

Colorado state Rep. Mark Baisley asked the right question during a packed committee meeting, “Who defines healthy sexual relationships?” This is a parent’s role, not Planned Parenthood’s.

Rather than allowing parents to share values with their children regarding healthy sexual relationships, the state has forcefully assumed this responsibility.

While some of the more egregious aspects of the bill were amended out, the bill is a continuation of the state’s efforts to force a more and more progressive sexual worldview upon Colorado children. This isn’t education, this is Planned Parenthood indoctrination.

Two other bills that passed usurp the role of parents when it comes to treating a child’s mental health. Do you have a child struggling with gender identity? Counselors in Colorado can now only counsel your child to embrace transgenderism. This means encouraging the taking of hormone medication and changing your child’s lifestyle, even if it’s against your guidance. Again, the state thinks it knows what’s best for your child.

Do you have a child struggling with depression? Children as young as 12 years old can now see counselors in Colorado an unlimited number of times without your consent. You have no idea what your child is talking about with the counselor, what issues your child is facing, or how the counselor is guiding them. Again, the state thinks it knows what’s best for your child.

Parents, rightfully so, came to the Colorado State Capitol in record numbers to combat this state takeover. They packed committee rooms, testified until late into the night, held rallies, sent tens of thousands of emails and made their voices heard.

Sadly, parents lost rights this legislative session, and Planned Parenthood is patting itself on the back. Planned Parenthood gained more control over the children of Colorado. Parents must not forget what happened during this legislative session and must continue to build the movement to regain our rights.

The threat to parental rights is not limited to Colorado only. Like many liberal agendas, this is coming to a state near you soon.

Loving parents are the most important factors in the development of healthy children. Removing parents from establishing relationship values or guiding the mental health of their children is the wrong approach.

District misleading Jeffco parents about controversial curriculum.
Last Friday Governor Polis signed into law one of the most controversial pieces of legislation of the past session: House Bill 1032, which restructures the content of comprehensive sexual education. While the legislation sparked outrage and received historic attention that perhaps helped soften some of its provisions, the adopted version of HB 1032 remains a serious usurpation of local school board power by the state government. However, beyond the light of statewide media attention, similar overreaches are taking place at the local level, including at one elementary school in Jefferson County.

When it comes to human sexuality programs, parents still have the right to opt their children out of instruction with which they disagree. But what about K-12 instruction that touches on controversial issues outside the scope of human sexuality education? Do parents have the right to ask for alternate assignments when their children are to be exposed to resources that are controversial or to topics that are sensitive in nature, or which directly contradict a family’s values and beliefs? The answer: it depends on the school district and in some cases on whether districts decide to abide by their own policies.

Over the past year one elementary school in Jefferson County has been working to introduce a curriculum built by AMAZEworks. The package includes over 100 colorful storybooks and accompanying lesson plans, all of which are designed to “[foster] social-emotional learning through the lens of anti-bias education” and cover an extensive list of topics which include “race/ethnicity, immigration, religion, socioeconomics, disabilities, gay/lesbian/transgender family members, divorce/blended, aging, foster care, incarceration, death, deployment, and adoption.” ReadMore http://ow.ly/z2gA50uyCK1


UPDATE: It looks like the plan to do away with the parental notification about abortions stalled in the spring 2019 legislative session of Illinois. However, the villains in the legislature plan to bring it back as early as the fall. I did a search on the History/Social Science framework. For the 11th grade, Alfred Kinsey’s name comes up as a person who students may consider for the LGBT movement. They also mention Harvey Milk, of course. It doesn’t reference how both of them committed criminal sexual acts against minors.

The framework is not required instruction but some districts may use it so parents need to be aware. The framework is also what sets the stage for future publications by textbook companies.

Samuel Stillman Greene (1810-1883) on behalf of the Boston Masters for their famous Remarks on the Seventh Annual Report of the Honorable Horace Mann, Secretary of the Massachusetts Board of Education, in which they took to task the sight-reading method that had been adopted by the Boston primary schools in 1837 and produced a literacy disaster. And it was this critical essay that revealed who originated this new method of teaching reading: the Rev. Thomas H. Gallaudet, the director of the American Asylum for the Deaf and Dumb in Hartford, Connecticut, who taught the deaf to read via a sight method and thought that this method could be adapted for use by normal children.
However, in 1929, no one seemed to have read what the Boston Masters wrote in 1844. And as we know, when we ignore or forget history we are bound to repeat it. Not only was Dr. Orton unaware of what had been written in 1844, but educators of today are not aware of what Dr. Orton wrote in 1929. He said in as diplomatic way as possible:
I wish to emphasize at the beginning that the strictures which I have to offer here do not apply to the use of the sight method of teaching reading as a whole but only to its effects on a restricted group of children for whom, as I think we can show, this technique is not only not adapted but often proves an actual obstacle to reading progress, and moreover I believe that this group is one of considerable educational importance both because of its size and because here faulty teaching methods may not only prevent the acquisition of academic education by children of average capacity but may also give rise to far reaching damage to their emotional life. NOTE, Emotional Life…Sight word memorization is a constructivist philosophy…Back as far as 1844 this was noticed…And Here We Stand…

when I began researching this topic I found one source of information whose knowledge came from practicing the New Age herself. Her information aligned with the information I retrieved from multiple sources. I had very little knowledge when I began my research. Meditation comes from Eastern philosophies and once you begin to unwrap what is going on you will better understand why parents are concerned. Some in Christian circles will say they go into the “silence.” Either approach, that of “emptying your mind” is causing many to have altered state experiences. During these times, they claim to be given special words from God. Bottom line, mediation is also a form of Eastern Religion and should not be used as a calming method in public schools. I have several people I know who regularly meditate and actually experience some pretty bizarre things. Similar to a high. Again, not to be taught in public schools. It is teaching a religious practice. In 1959 there was a major case where prayer was removed from public schools for the same reason.


this group is focused on parental educational concerns and specifically CSE but SEL (Social Emotional Learning) is an educational concern that parents may also have. Some of the parents in this group have researched different forms of SEL intensely and have taught me additional and helpful information. For my part, I researched mindfulness meditation, MindUP curriculum, buddhist singing bowls, Tapping (EFT), various school apps in use, yoga, etc. I talked with Buddhist temples, I talked with the owners of New Age Spirituality stores, I talked with a woman who was previously involved in the New Age and the occult. All of this was very eye-opening.

Parent or family-sponsored SEL/meditation is appropriate. State-sponsored SEL/meditation is not appropriate.

The part about parents being allocated to the sidelines as just cheerleaders for the government programs versus the school being cheerleaders for parents and helping with their children’s learning was pretty concerning to me.

Yesterday, I posted the thoughts of a teacher who decided to leave teaching based on many factors. In this case, we have an email letter demonstrating the grief and pain this family and children have endured over years in a district. Some people say “the system is broken.” In truth, “the system” has been removed from the local decision-making of teachers and parents. And it’s been happening incrementally for over 30 years. Regulations and policies from “on high” have replaced good ole’ common sense. Non-profits and foundations are more important to superintendents (and school boards and legislators) many times than parents and teachers (and students). There IS a way out! But you have to be willing to step up and stand up for this next generation. (The email is anonymous only because we were not sure about publishing the identity.)
“Greetings,
I am a parent of six children who have all had varying experiences within the Forest Lake Area School district. The purpose of this communication is to bring attention to our experience over the last eight years at Linwood Elementary School. We have not felt comfortable doing so until we had alternative placement for our children.
While I commend the FLAS district for implementing the Olweus Bullying Prevention Program in 2005, it is severely lacking. On paper it looks like forward progress but in reality it is new wallpaper on a dilapidated building.
There is not a meditation program in place to give children a healthy, safe space to work out grievances between peers or staff. This results in chronic bullying which can lead the bullied child to developing long and short-term symptoms. Bullying can result in isolation, shame, school avoidance, anxiety, suicidal thoughts/ideation, self-harm, and psychosomatic symptoms such as stomachache, headache, muscle aches, to name a few.
Children are regularly discouraged from tattling, which fosters an unfettered victim/abuser environment. While verbal and emotional abuse are on a different plane than sexual abuse it all starts with a power exchange. In the current climate of the metoo movement and the Larry Nassar case we can clearly see that this is a systemic issue beginning at a young age. Being told that tattling is not okay, without giving a safe space to voice themselves, causes irreparable damage to the victim. We are trying to raise our sons and daughters in a different, better world.
Our children are being taught that when they are bullied or victimized they need not muddy the waters. As a parent of six, I can empathize with staff and teachers in regard to nitpicking and tattling. Yet, if there were less stress to meet the demands of Common Core and standardized testing results there might be more time to teach the child as a whole person; educationally and emotionally. Positive mental health does not start after elementary school, in fact that is where it begins.
Our sixth grade son saved a classmates life this year, after the child had endured chronic bullying about his ethnicity and immigration status. The child confided in our son that he was going to go home and take his life. Our son empathized with this boy after having endured bullying of his own. On one occasion, it resulted in a permanent scar to his face. Our son was scared to break the confidence of his classmate but did so knowing a life was at stake.
While we were lucky enough to stop it in time, it never should have gotten to that point. If there had been an adequate, safe space for the child and his bullies to discuss the abuse it could have been avoided. In the days and weeks following the incident there was no mention of what had transpired. No one addressed the bullying, nor did anyone sit down with his classmates. This was a perfect time to discuss how what they hear at home, on the television, or on the bus had no place in the school setting.
Students differences are not celebrated effectively, thereby making it that much easier for slurs of all kinds to be used without a second thought. Two of our sons have encountered racial slurs being flagrantly used towards them despite not being a person of color. In this school year alone they’ve been called “stupid ni**er,” “trans faggot,” and “little gay boy.” We have thoroughly explained the origin of these words and how it does not dictate how they carry themselves in the world; other children may not be so lucky. While sensitivity training is appropriate for a workplace setting, what protections are in place for our school aged children?
Bullying does not end with the students. Our youngest son was in third grade when he endured bullying at the hands of his teacher. She would take his snacks, throw them in the trash, and then publicly accuse him of stealing them from her. She would regularly have him stand in the front of the class so she could mock him. This went on for months before we realized how bad it was. We consulted with staff and were told to have our son report these incidents to the principal as they occurred.
We explained to him that it wasn’t his fault and how even if an adult is awful to you, you have to remain respectful. By the end of that school year, he had lost so much valuable educational time. He was constantly worried about answering wrong or anxious for the next time she would use him to make a point to his classmates.
Earlier the same year, I verbally requested that our son be assessed for Special Education services. She agreed and made note of it. During our last scheduled parent/teacher conference I mentioned my concern with his lack of mastery in core subjects. At this time, I brought up the question of when would the assessment be concluded? Her response was that she didn’t see a need for those services and recommended summer school instead. Our son, who was emotionally traumatized for nine months, was not going to spend one more day sitting at a desk. We politely declined.
The subsequent year his fourth grade teacher was on board and completely understood the need for Special Education services. At that time we had him fully evaluated and the school’s process began. It took until the last half of fifth grade to get his 504 plan into action. Our son went two and a half years without the help he needed. I’m still not sure if all of it was a result of losing funding/staff downsizing or if it was because the FLAS’s special education system is antiquated and lacking. Either way, our son is the one who has to suffer the consequences. He is headed to sixth grade with a deeply lacking toolbelt of skills and knowledge.
His older brother did not experience anything better. While he has the protection of an IEP (Individualized Education Plan) for speech services, his Attention Deficit qualifies as a part of his target goals. We fought to get him services starting in first grade. He had a difficult time staying organized, completing multi-step tasks, and lower than average grades. His IEP does not get followed on a consistent basis. The concerns we have expressed throughout the years have “fallen on deaf ears” more often than not.
In previous years we have voiced our desire to retain both of our sons, on different occasions. We did not make the request without serious research and consideration. Retention is not something to be taken lightly, we did so because it was in our children’s best interest. If a parent can withhold immunizations based on their medical/religious beliefs we should have a right to have a say about whether or not our children are prepared for the next grade. We were told we did not have the right to request such a thing. Our children may be in the care of school, day in and day out, but at the end of the day, we are their parents.
The world our children are living in now is filled with polarizing ideas, questionable ethics, and the deep seated desire to change what has clearly not been working. It may seem inconsequential now but our children spend approximately 2,678 days in school, from kindergarten to graduation. During this impressionable time they are indirectly learning how their voices compare to the world around them.
As a mother, I am my children’s advocate. As a parent, I am appalled at how the Forest Lake Area School district is complicit in letting down the parents and families of our next generation.

Morning, friends!! “Woohoo!” states the Minnesota State Longitudinal Education Data System. Evidently legislative funding was passed to keep the SLEDS and ELCS (Early Childhood Longitudinal Data System) fully funded for 2020 and 2021. The MN SLEDS system is the very one whose 40+ contracts a year haven’t been audited in 10-15 years. This is the same SLEDS whose system was purposely configured interoperably in order to share with other states and via the SIF, other countries. The SLEDS are administered by the MDE (MN Dept of Education), OHE (Office of Higher Learning) and DEED (Dept of Employment and Economic Development). So, congrats! If the testing companies, corporate foundations, non-profits or universities aren’t sharing/selling our kids “profiles”- $$$- the government is or helping. Apparently, DATA makes the world go round!!

New Funding for SLEDS!
We are excited to share with you that the Minnesota Statewide Longitudinal Education Data System (SLEDS) and the Minnesota Early Childhood Longitudinal Data System (ECLDS) have been granted ongoing state funding for fiscal years 2020 and 2021.

The new bill, signed into law on May 26th, expresses the intent of the Legislature to support the mission of SLEDS and ECLDS for providing policymakers, educators, administrators, workforce leaders, researchers, and the general public with the most recent data to inform public policy and decision-making. This funding will secure our continuous reporting on early childhood development and students’ educational progress toward career and college readiness, and into the labor market.

In addition, the new bill adds ECLDS’ essential role in the P-20 Education Partnership for evaluating the effectiveness of early childhood and the long-term relationships “among early care, education, and workforce outcomes”.

Our efforts to provide you with integrated data will continue to expand. Both SLEDS and ECLDS have become reliable data sources that can assist you in finding solutions that lead young children and students to successful outcomes in education and the workforce.

The corporate plans of Planned Parenthood are not always immediately noticed in the U.S. but there is more awareness now with California’s CSE mandate.

That is the goal. The computer will do all the instructing. Problem is no one will know what is being taught to our kids. Personalized learning is all about personalized indoctrination and parents think it is all so wonderful. This is CBE/OBE. I am a Kindergarten teacher here in the 5th largest school district in the nation and we are REQUIRED to insure ALL of owur Kindergarten students are using iPads for ST Math, with Imagine Learning , Renasiance/STAR/Reading Ranger Program, EngageNY for math, and SAXON for Literacy/handwriting/Language Arts, beginning reading program. I have been in education as both a teacher and administrator for nearly 3 decades and strongly believe in DEVELOPMENTAL EDUCATION that allows the child to naturally develop and master everything. They need lots of time to process what they encounter and learn about. It takes lots of time to master fine and gross motor skills. I think we are rushing these children, demanding much from a child to PRODUCE in a finite, defined time. I believe that parents should KNOW what their child is expected to do, because they are a huge part of getting the job done by the time their child is expect to “graduate” or officially be “promoted” to the first grade.

To my knowledge, NO. Only persons who have looked at these have been within the educator community, that I know of. Usually, these decisions are made at the TOP, then they present it, sometimes will bring in the very people from the organizations to do a presentation with a Q & A afterwards (I am thinking many years ago with the AIMSweb & Imagine Learning, and several others) and the more recent like ESGI, ST Math, Reading Rangers, EngageNY, and MAPS are Top-Down then Literacy Specialist to an intro of program, Q & A, and peer pressure, on the spot vote (no time to research on own then come back to it for a vote) and with the SOT meetings/Parent & Community with neighborhood school meetings, usually virtually 1 parent shows up, the TOP presents it (and this is after the fact with teaching staff) there will be discussion (remember there is 1, maybe 4 parents, the most that I have seen in this failed REorganizaion Plan’s SOTs since pushing it on the schools for “management”. Lots of politics, and all this is controversial because each person may agree or disagree on the merits of these. There’s really good people with a heart of gold trying to teach, but at the same time, there is a beast system that tends to roll right past the parents, students, and teachers, even what the businesses and community want. I am happy to meet and share what my personal experiences are for the last 15 years here in Nevada’s educational industrial complex. I do exercise careful wording of things, just an FYI.

The next planned move is personalized learning software which bombards students with assessing and remediation daily.
People will xheer when the yearly state assessments are gone only they will be unwoke to the daily assessing via screens and wonderful marketing of personalized learning.


We’re already headed down that road. That can be the next fight. Right now, we have a little bit of leverage with the whole state of Utah upset about the testing. The only way out of the testing & ESSA requirements is to say no to the federal money. That’s what we have to convince the legislature to do.


if you can show the cost of the requirements tied to the funding and show it supercedes the funding received it cannot be denied.


Is this the 21 mil they want to sign?


Yes, that’s what the legislators are being updated on. The State Board signs the contracts for the testing & it sounds like that decision has already been made. But the State Legislature has the power to stop the testing altogether by taking the requirement out of statute & not appropriating the funding.


When I wrote to board@schools.utah.gov 6/7/19 this was the reply I got: “Hi [name redacted] – Testing is mandated by the Legislature. We don’t have an option to stop testing. -Linda Hansen” That is it, no thank you for writing or great idea we will consider it, just that it is all the Legislatures fault.

They are not bound by Utah law and code, they change it every year. That’s their job. It does not require a constitutional amendment. This kind of testing has not been around forever & the legislature was able to generally control & supervise education without it.

“School districts across the U.S. accessed a total of more than 7,000 ed-tech products in the 2018-19 school year, and individual school systems use an average of 703 different digital tools every month, according to an online analysis of the top 40 ed-tech products released today by LearnPlatform.
That’s a 40 percent increase in the library of ed-tech tools identified on the ed-tech management platform compared to 2017-18. And it’s a 28 percent increase in the average number of products used in individual districts, compared to 2017-18, when the number was 548.

Google Products Take Top Spots

The Top 40 analysis was drawn from data using LearnPlatform’s Google Chrome Extension that schools uploaded for free. That tool gives the researchers insights from more than 10,000 participating educational organizations, representing over 1.1 million learners. The findings are based on usage of 3,428 ed-tech products and 6.7 billion data points from educational organizations using LearnPlatform’s Google Chrome extension.
Google products dominate seven of the top 10 positions on the list, with Google Docs ranked #1. This classroom tool is used by 86 percent of all digital tool users studied. Gmailis a new entrant on the list; it is also categorized as an operational tool used by nearly 59 percent of districts.
“It looks like, with Google’s intention to support all aspects of education, they are touching each of those,” said Karl Rectanus, the co-founder and CEO of Lea(R)n, the company whose platform districts use to organize, streamline and analyze their ed-tech. The penetration can be explained, at least in part, by the fact that “if you’re on a Chrome browser, you’re accessing Google Docs,” he said.
Rectanus said it’s important to note that this analysis “speaks more to the comprehensive nature” of the use of the various suite of Google tools, “rather than a competitive advantage against other content or other operational tools.”

‘Content’ Category Sees Biggest Growth

LearnPlatform also analyzed ed-tech tools designed and used to provide specific instruction to students. Their use grew by 10 percent over the most recent year. YouTube, at #3 on the overall list, was the top content product for usage, and Khan Academy ranked 15th.
iReady, Nearpod, and PBS are three newcomers to the Top 40 since the list was started three years ago.
Categories that lost ground were reference and assessment—each losing 5 percent of the product usage “pie.” The top reference tool was Wikipedia, which ranked #8, and the top assessment tool was Kahoot!, which ranked ninth. Grammarly, a reference tool, appeared on the list for the first time this year.
The top social networking tool accessed is Pinterest (#14), with Twitter and Facebook in more distant positions.
In the learning management system category, Google Classroom led at #5 on the list, with Canvas the #16 LMS tool.
In the operational category, Clever and Google Sheets are newly added to the list.
Now in its third release, the ed-tech top 40 list has generated interest from a variety of companies and interest groups that follow the K-12 market.
Education leaders in states and districts, as well as foundations and ed-tech providers themselves, are using the list “to get a better sense of the landscape,” said Rectanus.”

It is because the boys and girls club is a nationwide organization that is very liberal.


I 100% completely understand the want to move and to protect your children. But a few months ago I realized that while CA is unfortunately ground zero, this will spread like cancer. This is beyond equality and treating people well, this is full on disgusting indoctrination. But till people stop apologizing and being afraid of being called words, this will spread everywhere. Parents can no longer “dial it in” and put their kids in front of a screen. This is our cross to bear as parents and it starts at home.


I’m in California … My son’s school had pride month.. they had one day where they dressed of the opposite sex.. so some boys wore dresses and some girls wore boys clothes.. I’m trying to convince my son to go to a charter school … and hopefully eventually I want to homeschool…

Do an online search for current sex Ed curriculums in Red States. You’ll find many are revamping it to be “inclusive” and are pushing for “youth reproductive rights”. And many want to include k-12. Do the research behind the partners or health experts giving input. You’ll find it goes back to liberal agencies or “experts”.

This cancer seems to follow no matter where people go. So either we can fight it now or leave and let our children fight it when it comes to the state Californians move to. I’m hearing about it everyday from my brothers and sisters in OR, NV, WA, even WY now.
I prefer to fight now while I have the health and energy to do so so my child won’t have to face that possible cancer later in their “safe” state.
That’s just my convictions. To stay as long as I can to try and turn my beloved state around.
Because I know. It really doesn’t matter where I move. It will effect the future generations. We’re really only putting off the inevitable by deserting our home state.


We moved back to California from a conservative midwest state to take care of family and its bad here but its already creeping in back there too.


Good people need to come together and stand their ground in the state in which they live. Running away from problems only strengthens problems. And the issues today are as important as issues many have fought in the past. You start by doing the very thing the enemy fears, you commit to organize and educate and vote against the destructive behavior against families that believe in decency and traditional godly family values. And become the example of traditional family values by standing United. Remember the psychological game the enemy is playing is too demoralize good people. The enemy is annoying but is defeated so don’t give in to the nonsense, understand the game.
Godly people are righteous now show your faith by your actions. Be the example. 🇺🇸 Remember the challenges of those that came before you, they didn’t give up they believe in fighting for you now you fight for the future of the ones you love.

Who IS this person??!! Was just given her little flyer this past weekend. It looks like another push to replace the bad lawmakers with more GOP pick BAD lawmakers. Her resume isn’t very impressive. Stacy Hock,, I call her money bags. She is loaded. She sits on the board of Texas Public Policy, She was a HUGE advocate and pushed real hard for school Choice. She now heads up the 2020 Victory Campaign in Texas. RINO in my opinion.

I’ve known Stacy Hock for almost a decade. She’s incredibly bright and hard working and committed to permanently preventing Democrats from regaining control in Texas. She helped support our efforts to win seats in Travis County when that was an incredible long shot. She helped TPPF grow and bring on strong leadership and advance great policy.
She’s a native Texan who is raising her family here because she cares about our state. She returned here after getting degrees from MIT in computer science and electrical engineering and ran an IBM software unit working with Wall Street firms. I’d put her qualifications up against any dozen other people volunteering in Texas politics, me included. The Party is lucky to have her serving.
Those who criticize her without knowing her should know better. Those whose criticism is that she’s donated money should think for a minute about the fact that the job – Victory Chair – is literally to raise millions to beat Democrats. Having donated money is a pretty good job qualification. Not sufficient by itself, but sure should be a requirement.

I am a precinct chair and i support the platform. We get punked out if we stand for conservstism or don’t support progressive money makers. I never get answers from some of these people. I swear it’s really discouraging. So…out here we do our own fundraising. We do our own training. We have to be self sufficient out here in no man’s land. Its not easy and a lot of us just give up abd hand it over. Its a shame the direction some think we need to go…but there are still some of us trying…no matter what the obstacles. And THAT gives me hope.


I’m not giving up. But I won’t support TX politicians who refuse to vote the way TX citizens want them to. I’ll campaign for Trump only. I’ll contribute to him only. The rest of them are betraying “we the people”…looking in our eyes, lying and smiling as they do so.

Supposedly a “Republican” majority and still no victories.

LGTBBQ Up In Arms After Utah High School Students Burning A Rainbow Flag

SO… IT’S OK TO BURN AN AMERICAN FLAG,… BUT THE GAY COMMUNITY GETS “Up In Arms” WHEN ONE OF THEIR FLAGS IS BURNED,… CAN YOU SAY “HYPOCRITE” BOYS AND GIRLS??


A couple of Football players at Kearns High School are being booted off the team after they filmed themselves burning a rainbow flag and then one of them said: “All gays die.” The incident happened during their summer break, not on campus.

“Granite School District officials are determining the proper punishment, which could include community service or school suspension for the student who posted the video and another who reposted it.

“There’s no place for that in our program at all, and it won’t be tolerated,” said Matt Rickards, the team’s head coach. “It’s potentially a hate crime, so it sickens me.”

“We want to make sure every student who walks through our doors feels safe and secure in the environment that they’re in,” said district spokesman Ben Horsley. “Whether it was done intentionally with a threat in mind or for humor’s sake, it’s inappropriate. And we’re going to address it in a very serious fashion.”

“The video was also forwarded to the Unified Police Department, but detectives there determined no crime was committed since nobody was directly threatened in the video, and thus no charges — including possible hate crime charges — will be filed, Unified Police Sgt. Melody Gray said.

“Burning the flag is not a crime, and because our hate crimes law is an enhancement to a crime there is no crime committed, therefore (there is no hate crime),” she explained.

In 1988 California Teachers Association (CTA) the primary teachers union in CA and the US sent me a packet outlining their goals to support/include lgbtqia favoring hiring, curriculum, books n materials in our public schools.
2 Years ago 2017 my district of West Contra Costa Informed every employee at our all district mandatory meeting that WCCUSD proudly supports the LGBTQIA community as they waved the rainbow flag in our faces.
Not 1 regular employee was ever allowed to vote on this issue.
(This is an example of liberation democracy). This was decided by the administrators and union leaders.
FYI Out of 1500 teachers the union president was elected by under 300 votes. I confidently repeat this bc I counted the votes even though I did not vote given only activists, radicals and provocateurs were running.
WCCUSD is a large district with mostly minority students at present. Our academic levels since the 60’s should prove we deserve to be closed if state educrats cared about students futures no matter what their ethnicity or income levels are.
CTA published 4 or more posters they asked teachers to display in their classrooms.

Even in boring Moraga, a 4 school district near Walnut Creek in the SF East Bay, many administrators think that parental notification and parents insistence on preserving their autonomy over sexuality, family, relationships, sexual behaviors, medical intervention is saying you oppose equal access to education for minority students!!!!! In their minds ONLY bigots do not want children to learn how “ normal “ lgbtqia life choices/behaviors are.

We have an adopted textbook for high school that is rather old. I can get a copy for you to review. We are going to look at a new textbook next spring for reviewing. In addition, currently we do use guest speakers from our community, including groups such as WHAT IS LOVE? (which covers topics such as positive relationship building and avoiding dating violence) and PLANNED PARENTHOOD (which covers more of the Sex Ed aspects) to address aspects of the CHYA that the textbook does not cover. The textbook is adopted at the district level, but individual teachers may decide on which organizations they use for guest speakers as long as we have an approved contract with the organization. Our Health teachers do meet in the summer for planning the year ahead, so they have very similar curriculum overall.

sadly they are not. At the beginning of 18/19 school year I contacted Just-read Florida the state agency put in place to make sure the district’s were complying with regulations. When I told them what was going on they said I needed to take it up with the district. The district says the state, Just Read Florida approves their plans so what is the problem? 🤷🏼‍♀️🤦🏼‍♀️

Im paying to train myself the third week of July in OG. I used to teach reading recovery and my area of expertise has always been early literacy. I plan on tutoring, although I would love to go back to the classroom. I just don’t think I can do it again. I can’t bear to make kids cry and do developmentally inappropriate things just for a test score. I am more then a score just like my students are. No teacher deserves what the state is putting them through. It is worse when the local districts go along with the state. IT leads to malpractice, leaves kids miserable, and drives teachers from the classroom.

If someone says something isn’t true that doesn’t automatically make it untrue. These curriculums (iReady, Reading Plus, Fountas and Pinell) do not have the Evidence with independent replicated research. Or any evidence at all for some.
According to Florida Administrative Code schools must use evidence-based interventions.


Funny thing is, when I list my reasons for opting my kids out, I mention the lack of it being evidence-based. Not one administrator tried to tell me otherwise.

OMG, band instruments and equipping the new school?!?! While important, that is certainly not what the taxpayers voted for. We expected more STEM classrooms, elementary schools with STEM based learning which means manipulatives, using their hands to learn, engineering. The taxpayers certainly didn’t vote for her to add more computers solely for testing purposes. She’s talking from both sides of her mouth again. If she screws this up and we don’t see an increase in STEM curriculum, choices and classrooms, she won’t get the money in 2022.


That explains how we are getting more and more CBE, more laptops, and iPads. Enough is enough. It’s not why I voted for the referendum and beg for more $ from taxpayers. Very frustrating to see this!

ClassLink allows students and teachers to log on one time and have access to all of the apps used in the district for data collection and mastery based instruction. Only one password and website to log into. So much easier instead of trying to remember so many user names and passwords for the ridiculous number of mindless screen time apps we have our children tethered to in Manatee County.

Imagine if we put that money into actual teachers instead of an easy link to all of the apps we are using to REPLACE TEACHERS. Imagine if we used this money to purchase multi sensory instructional materials that were third party independently researched and reviewed.

agree! They will argue that a 30-40 min block isn’t replacing teachers but it is. Where I came from up North they would have reading and math specialist to help the kids. You won’t find that here in Florida. Put them on the computer.
We always have time for 30-40 min computer lab but we can’t oblige by the PE mandate what is was designed for. 150 min of PE a week but my kids have PE 5 days in a row ever 3 weeks but including extra recess time and go noodle/ movement during the day.

That is wrong for so many reasons. Focusing on speed when it comes to learning words is more likely to be counterproductive when it comes to the whole purpose of reading—a deep understanding of what is being read. This approach can also cause unnecessary anxiety and stress.
This whole focus on “speed” in education is completely misguided. Learning isn’t a race. Being fast at these skills doesn’t equate to being better and humans can no longer compete against the speed of computers and AI anyway. Finally, some of our greatest thinkers were slow learners.

Based on a topic I replied to in this group this week (Sex Ed law in Homeschooling or Charter Schools), I asked the Orange County Board of Ed a few questions and below are the answers.

1) When is the new Sex Ed law enforced at all public and charter schools? What is the deadline to have embedded it into the annual curriculum?

ANSWER: Instruction in traditional public schools was mandated to begin January 2016. For charter schools, the instruction must take place one time in Middle School and one time in High School starting with the next school year, 2019-2020.

2) May homeschools omit the Sex Ed framework?

ANSWER: My contact here at OCDE has not seen anything that exempts homeschools. If a publicly-funded homeschool has to adhere to all mandates for public instruction, then they have to adhere to this as well. That said, parents are allowed to opt out so that they can go through that process if they wish to opt out of the instruction, but the homeschool can’t just “omit it.”

3) I was told there may be a loophole. Can you confirm? I was told that self-study charter schools (Ex: Inspire) may provide curriculum to homeschools that may omit the Sex Ed. Is that correct?

ANSWER: No loopholes. The California Department of Education is paying very close attention to this instruction. Schools cannot simply omit the instruction. Again, the only way that instruction is not provided is in the case of a parent opting out (done passively where the parent has to put in writing that they request their child not receive the education- they can’t fill out or sign a provided form). FYI- Instruction must be skill based, which may pose a challenge for an all online program or self-study program. Blended instruction can work if there is some self-study, but an opportunity for group-based work and instructor-led instruction that reinforces skills is specifically called out in the law.

I, Brenda Lebsack, am a Trustee for Orange Unified School District and a teacher in Santa Ana Unified District. I am writing (representing only myself) in response to the Register article about OC School Districts Resisting Calif Sex Ed (AB 329). Orange Unified rejected Teen Talk, a new state sex ed curriculum, (vote 6-1) on May 30, 2018, due to community opposition and controversy over medical inaccuracy. I voted against Teen Talk for 7th & 8th graders.

To clear up misinformation about why this was rejected, I hope to shed light on some facts. On May 24th and May 30th, many people from the community attended our board meetings expressing concerns. This diversity of people consisted of: Muslims, Catholics, Protestants, Mormons, of varied ethnic backgrounds: Hispanic, White, Asian, Samoan, Romanian, Middle Easterners. Disapproval was expressed about Pansexuality, Asexuality, the Queer Umbrella, anal sex, anal/oral sex and one view taught as fact on sexual orientations and gender identities.

Direct Quotes used from Teen Talk were:
p.86 – Pan means any or all. Someone who is pansexual might find themselves attracted to men, women, non-binary people, trans people, gender queer people, and many more!
(yes, the exclamation point is in the text)

p. 84 – Gender Queer – Umbrella
Genderspectrum.org is noted for definitions:
A child may have a Non-binary gender identity, meaning they do not identify strictly as a boy or a girl- they could identity as BOTH, or NEITHER, or as ANOTHER GENDER ENTIRELY. Agender people do not identity with any gender…. Descriptors for gender identities are rapidly expanding; youth… today no longer feel bound to identity strictly with one of two genders, but are instead establishing a GROWING VOCABULARY for gender.

Concerning Medical Accuracy, a CHOC Hospital Pediatrician attended our meeting and stated: “In reviewing Teen Talk, students are not being told medically accurate statistics regarding the effectiveness of condom use in anal sex. They are not being told the truth that anal sex is the highest risk behavior for transmission of HIV and other STD’s especially since condoms are not FDA approved for anal sex.”

Note: AB 329 ( Calif Healthy Youth Act) requires information include all FDA-approved methods of reducing the risk of HIV.

When Teen Talk was halted on May 30th in Orange Unified School District due to reservations about medical accuracy and realizing we needed more community input to comply with Ed Code 60002, which states, Each district board.. shall promote the involvement of parents…. in the selection of instructional materials, ACLU sent our district a letter stating,

Parents do not have the right to dictate what curriculum is used or what information is provided to students in public schools. The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit has ruled that parents do not have any constitutional right “to prevent a public school from providing its students with whatever information it wishes to provide, sexual or otherwise, when and as the school determines that it is appropriate to do so.”

This letter from ACLU confused me. In Section 51937 under AB 329 it states: The Legislature recognizes that … parents and guardians have the ULTIMATE RESPONSIBILITY for IMPARTING VALUES regarding human sexuality to their children.

As a Trustee of OUSD, I was elected to represent my community and to also uphold the law. Although Teen Talk is considered the highest approved curriculum in compliance with AB 329 according to state experts and is recommended by the ACLU, I know we have the option to choose another curriculum that better reflects our community and still meets the requirements of the law. I believe Irvine Unified is the only district in Orange County using Teen Talk for their Middle and High School students. It might work for Irvine, but it does not work for Orange Unified. This is the beauty of local control.

Our desire in OUSD is to have curriculum that is medically accurate and inclusive for ALL students. The goal of comprehensive sex education is to increase knowledge so students can make well informed decisions concerning their sexual health. That goal will be met, but not through Teen Talk.

My son came home for months, every day, upset about the insanity and perversion being taught in his public school. The final straw was when he was asked BY THE TEACHER how he identified, and he simply said, “I’m (name). Why do I need to add more?” HE was promptly sent to the office, suspended pending an investigation into his HOME life to try to prove I was raising him to be a bigot. In the process, some of the students and staff were made aware that I voted for Trump, and things went from bad to worse. They actually tried to get me in trouble with CPS (Child Protective Services) by calling in and lying, telling them he was being raised in a racist, homophobic, and mentally abusive environment. (Obviously, it went nowhere, but it did result in me being very…abrasive with the school because of it.) Long story short, after fighting with the school for the remainder of the school year, most of the teachers and a large portion of the student body began to call him a racist, a sexist, and even a Nazi. It got bad enough he was actually jumped by a group of kids because of all of this. As a parent, I had to make the hardest decision I ever made with regards to my children…and I allowed him and both of my daughters (who were also targeted simply by proxy, although not as heavily) to public school. He is now 18, graduated from a good home-schooling program in May, and is headed into the Navy at the beginning of October to try to become a Corpsman (medic) (eventually he wants to be a pediatrician). I did my best as a single dad to raise all 3 of my children for the past 14 years, and I am proud to say that both of my daughters and my son are all drug-free, child-free, and headed into lives of promise and success. I firmly believe that if I would have allowed them to remain in the public compost heaps they call schools, they would have never had the educational acumen to be as successful as they are promising to be. We as a country need to step up and get rid of every politician, lobbyist, celebrity, administrator, teacher, and activist that wants to push these kinds of agendas. It is literally ruining our children, and our society. We should always endeavor to teach our young folks to be accepting, kind, understanding, compassionate, and open to anyone that does not look, live, or believe the way they do. But they should NEVER be taught such sexual insanity at such a young age. THAT is EXACTLY why we have skyrocketing numbers of kids having kids, one-parent homes (yes, I am a single parent, but that was because my wife DIED at age 26, not abandoned her children to go make more), and criminal systems and school overflowing with misled, uneducated, and dangerously under-parented juvenile delinquents of both sexes, all races, doctrines, cultures, and creeds. We need to wise up before we sleep through this and end up by absenteeism raising the generation that will forever destroy the greatest civilization in the history of mankind.

It is intended to ensure that pupils in grades 7-12 are provided with the knowledge and skills necessary to: 1) protect their sexual and reproductive health from HIV, other EWCSD Annual Notification to Parent/Guardian 18 of 25 Revised 8/9/18 sexually transmitted infections, and unintended pregnancy; 2) develop healthy attitudes concerning adolescent growth and development, body image, gender, sexual orientation, relationships, marriage, and family; and 3) have healthy, positive, and safe relationships and behaviors. It also promotes understanding of sexuality as a normal part of human development. The East Whittier City School District will provide instruction, as required by law, in comprehensive sexual health education, HIV/AIDS prevention education, and/or will conduct assessments on pupil health behaviors and risks in the coming school year. Parents or legal guardians have the right to: 1. Inspect the written and audiovisual educational materials used in the comprehensive sexual health and HIV/STI prevention education. 2. Request in writing that their child not receive comprehensive sexual health or HIV/STI prevention education. 3. Request a copy of Education Codes 51930 through 51939, the California Healthy Youth Act. 4. Be informed whether the comprehensive sexual health or HIV prevention education will be taught by district personnel or outside consultants. 5. Receive notice by mail or another commonly used method of notification no fewer than 14 days before the instruction is delivered if arrangements for the instruction are made after the beginning of the school year. 6. When the district chooses to use outside consultants or to hold an assembly with guest speakers to teach comprehensive sexual health or HIV/AIDS prevention education, to be informed of: a. The date of the instruction b. The name of the organization or affiliation of each guest speaker Parents may, in writing, request exemption from such instruction. A parent permission letter will be sent home with students. Parents will be notified, in writing, when they may preview films and materials. Parental support of school staff is essential in educating students in these critical areas. Discussion of these subjects at home is encouraged. Please refer any questions to your school nurse. Teachers and/or credentialed nursing and counseling staff will be providing materials and discussions on the topics listed below to the grade levels listed below: Topic Grade Levels Growth and Development 5th Sexual Health and HIV/AIDS Prevention: Positive Prevention Plus 7-8th Education on Sexual Harassment School social workers/counselors/administrators will make presentations to 4th-8th graders to advise them of behaviors that would be identified as sexual harassment and possibly warrant disciplinary action.

I have researched and all districts in Southern California have contracted with Cardea Services. This is extremely dangerous to our children

I watched some videos from an actual meeting with Cardea from someone who is going to these meetings undercover. It is much worse than I thought.

Cardea Service is extremely dangerous to our children. I am going to send a FOIA request to my district requesting all curriculum and any curriculum which may include handouts or curriculum sponsored by Planned Parenthood, or Cardea.


Someone correct me if I’m wrong… districts only have to show you the curriculum that was selected by the district, but they are not required to show any additional lesson materials that teachers have discretion to choose and use (not just the garbage suggested on the framework, but ANYTHING they believe is aligned with CSE). This is a MAJOR loophole that means anything goes!


I am getting various answers on this question. I do believe anything originating from Planned Parenthood is bias and by law cannot be utilized. I definitely am concerned as what you said is correct and I will be watching all the textbooks and handouts my grandson brings home like an eagle. Sending a school district a FOIA not only places them on notice they are being watched but also makes them nervous. I can only try to be part of the solution to save our children. The other very disturbing issue I found, if a teacher refuses to teach the x rated sex education curriculum, the district has the option to call in a subcontractor and I have been told that would be Planned Parenthood. I do believe many teachers will have an issue with teaching this disgusting sex education. If anyone from Planned Parenthood comes into a school to teach our children they are open to a large lawsuit. I don’t know if it is factual but after reviewing some of the curriculum it is beyond disgusting and I tend to believe they will utilize Planned Parenthood. This is nothing more than to gain control of our children instead of waiting to gain control of our children in college.


Good for you for being so proactive for your grandson! I am researching all of this but it is confusing. Sadly, I don’t see anything in the law that rules out Planned Parenthood (although a group of citizens In Anaheim got them banned from that district!). In fact, PP helped develop and is promoting CSE worldwide (at Untied Nations, for example). It is great that parents and grandparents do whatever it takes to find out what is being planned by teachers, but we need the laws changed to close loopholes that make it very hard (if not impossible?) to do so.


PP is not ruled out…they have their hands in this thing at almost every level. What you need to remember is that districts have the ability to choose which curriculum they will use, which could be one that was written by PP, or not. You have to go directly to your own district to find out what they plan to teach. And even if they say they aren’t making any changes, that means “not yet”. Some districts, such as my own, have not YET implemented anything new, but eventually it will be in every district (although maybe taught with a different curriculum). There are 6 curriculums that are “approved” by the state as meeting the new requirements, but schools are not limited to those choices; however, most schools are choosing from one of the six. All six are equally bad. You have the right to review the chosen curriculum your district is using. Call the curriculum specialist in your district and ask to make an appointment to review the curriculum (and all additional supplemental materials) available.


Back in 2007, my daughter came home from Kindergarten and began to tell me that her classmates had taught her that ladies can marry ladies and there also was an incident on the playground where a boy was asking girls if he should pull his pants down. Kindergarten!!!! We decided to homeschool not long after…

Program Description: Making Proud Choices is essentially a how-to manual for sexual activity. It implies that many, if not most, teenagers are sexually active and teaches them how to negotiate condom use and obtain consent for sex. This program promotes acceptance of diverse sexual orientations and gender identities and even contains same sex role play scenarios for teens to act out. Making Proud Choices encourages detailed condom demonstrations using penis models and suggests ways to make condom use more pleasurable. This curriculum includes DVDs with sexual discussions among teenagers and lessons on reducing the risk of STDs, not on eliminating the risk by practicing abstinence.

SEL is an acronym for social emotional learning. Pretty much, an excuse to make kids feel bad about themselves for not going along to get along in their beliefs. This means it is about re-programming their belief systems. It is about constantly putting feelers out to find out how the child feels and thinks, and what the child’s opinions and beliefs systems are, so that they can steer the kids toward what they want and shape their personality and belief systems.
Doing SEL and Comprehensive (not sex ed) sexuality ed together means ti push kids into believing that to be an acceptable person in their peer group (popular and well-liked), they should probably explore whether they want to be this sexuality or that (explore LGBT). This is serious indoctrination using emotion.

My home state of California requires HIV education as part of junior high and high school sex education curricula. School board members from various counties asked me to review elements of some available courses that they suspected were flawed. The ones presented to me were inaccurate and likely misleading and harmful to students, putting at particular risk the very group most in harm’s way: males having sex with other males (MSM).
A few land mines are lurking in the field of our state’s educational laws. California Education Code 51931 “definitions” section details that only “medically accurate” information can be taught. Seemingly fair enough. Also, Code 51933 states: “(4) Instruction and materials shall not reflect or promote bias against any person on the basis of any category protected by Section 220. (5) Instruction and materials shall affirmatively recognize that people have different sexual orientations and, when discussing or providing examples of relationships and couples, shall be inclusive of same-sex relationships.” Translation: All must affirm. There cannot be a discouraging word about sexual orientations. As you shall see, that gets tricky.
One curriculum explained that among behaviors considered “low risk” for HIV transmission was “vaginal or anal intercourse with a condom.” The same curriculum also lumped “vaginal, anal or oral sex” to imply equal protection through condom use. And with that, we say goodbye to medical accuracy. Condoms are not FDA approved for anal intercourse. Next, pooling oral, vaginal and anal intercourse together is inherently misleading. A rectum is not a vagina. Viruses have far easier access to blood through rectal vascular beds than through thick vaginal walls.
Furthermore, a 2013 U.S. Centers for Disease Control (CDC) report found that even a 100 percent use of condoms for anal intercourse failed an estimated 30 percent of the time. That is not low risk. The CDC’s “HIV Among Gay and Bisexual Men” webpage says: “Anal sex is the riskiest type of sex for getting or transmitting HIV. Receptive anal sex is 13 times as risky for getting HIV as insertive anal sex.” This seems an important detail for students to know, but it seems they don’t get this information. It would be one thing to state a degree of protection is afforded for various sexual practices though regular condom use, but quite another to broadly and vaguely generalize results as “low risk.”
California Education Code 51934(7) states: “This instruction shall emphasize that successfully treated HIV-positive individuals have a normal life expectancy, all people are at some risk of contracting HIV, and the only way to know if one is HIV-positive is to get tested.” Obfuscation is a poor substitute for clear warning, and equivalency arguments are misleading since things are rarely equivalent. This requirement of the code is easily misinterpreted by adolescents to mean all intercourse and abstinence are of nearly equal risk—“all people are at some risk”—leading to a sense of futility in prevention efforts. That is the wrong message to send. And there is more.
“Normal life expectancy” is a bit of a half story about HIV positivity. As one HIV-positive person asked of this program’s statements, “Who tells the students about the fist full of medications I have to take every single day and what happens if I miss a few days?” (Statement paraphrased by me). Who indeed. I am thrilled for people with HIV that the treatments have improved along with the life expectancy, but flippancy toward infection and its transmission—and a panacea view of treatment—can ruin it all for someone or many. A 2009 report from the Netherlands found that the benefits of “highly active antiretroviral therapy and early diagnosis” have “been entirely offset by increases in the [sexual] risk behavior rate.”
As one astute school board member pointed out during our review process, the California Education Code also says in 51934(2) that instruction is to include: “Information on the manner in which HIV and other sexually transmitted infections are and are not transmitted, including information on the relative risk of infection according to specific behaviors, including sexual activities and injection drug use.” She immediately recognized the code’s requirements are in flagrant contradiction of each other.
Medically accurate information on the relative risk of HIV infection from sexual behaviors looks much like this. The CDC reports that gay (men having sex with men, MSM) and bisexual men (MSM&W) account for the majority of new HIV cases in the U.S. “Gay and bisexual men” were estimated to be 2 percent of the U.S. population. Yet MSM represent 70 percent of new HIV infections in the U.S., and “Gay and bisexual men accounted for 82 percent (26,376) of new HIV diagnoses among all males aged 13 and older and 67 percent of the total new diagnoses in the United States.” “Gay and bisexual men aged 13 to 24 accounted for 92 percent of new HIV diagnoses among all men in their age group.” The CDC reported in 2016 that, at current rates, one in six MSM will be diagnosed with HIV in their lifetimes. MSM have 83 times the lifetime HIV diagnosis rate of heterosexual men (MSW) and six times the lifetime HIV diagnosis rate of men who inject drugs. To be forewarned is to be forearmed.
We are not in the dark as to why the HIV statistics are so poor in men having sex with men. According to a team led by Professor C. Beyrer at Johns Hopkins, MSM are more likely to have HIV, to have HIV variants and to spread HIV. There is more risk for transmission for each sex act with each person having anal-receptive sex. Only MSM can be inserters and receivers (pitchers and catchers). MSM have far higher rates of anal-receptive sex than women.
Students are poorly served by HIV awareness curricula that make generalizations and inaccuracies regarding the relative safety of sexual practices, exaggerate and blur the efficacy of condom use in them as though equivalent, and functionally tell students HIV infection is nothing because with medications you’ll live as long as anyone else. Reducing stigma associated with HIV is a goal of these programs, but in the name of that they seem to be clearing the way for more students to contract it. HIV awareness programs like the ones I’ve seen make students less aware, more naïve and more at risk.

At a dinner, I once sat next to the President of one of the largest banks in the world. He never went to college. He went straight from the Swiss schools (typically at about age 15 or 16) into the bank’s apprenticeship program.

He was not atypical. Comparatively few people go to college in Switzerland. About 2/3rds of Swiss adults went into similar apprenticeship programs in a wide variety of fields.

Of course there are few opportunities to learn socialism, radical feminism, or queer studies in the apprenticeship model. But despite that “shortcoming” there are high paying jobs that last a lifetime.

Having founded a college, I, of course, believe that colleges can be a wonderful way to prepare for life. But they are not the only way.

If the radical demands that we see coming from the progressive left gain momentum, it may be time for a massive retooling going away from the system that produces far too many antifa and other radicals, and pursue something more like the Swiss system.

We should all be alarmed by the outcomes arising from most colleges. It’s not only too much debt. We should all be alarmed that most colleges are purposely aimed at a radical political reformation.

As a taxpayer, I don’t want to fund that anymore.

This is a 4th grade reading level book that my elementary son has been reading. He brought this to me upset and knew it was inappropriate. Why?! Why in the world would this be included in a book geared towards children?! Published by Scholastic (who I plan on contacting).

Scholastic should take notice. I had the same thing happen with one of the free books they sent for my Grade 3 library. Thankfully an older sibling read it first and told her mother, who contacted me. I instructed them to throw it away. So disappointing!!


Do you remember the title of the book? I can mention that when I contact scholastic as well. I posted on their FB page but plan on calling and talking to someone.


Good idea. “Ungifted” by Gordon Korman. It is set in Middle School, but Reading level is listed as 8 and up. Even though there is an inappropriate sex education discussion.


Wow!!! I had to do the same thing last year. My son had gotten a book from the elementary schools literacy night. It had references to women and cuss words! I took it to the principal and he removed the books. I was so upset!!


Before I retired , I was beginning to see quite a few books 📚 with questionable content. One of my jr high students brought me a book because of what they had read. I was glad they told me and I took it to the librarian, who promptly took it out of the catalog and removed it from circulation. Sadly, we aren’t able to read everything before hand. I am also sad that many elementary books have sexual content because we have to be politically correct! Sorry, but political correctness is not good!!


This is just further erosion. Scholastic has peppered their presentations with anti-Christian “tidbits” for over 50 years! We’ve been their when nobody would listen, and that includes the school administration and other parents!


How crazy is that! It’s really sad that this is what is being published for 4th graders. I went to Barnes and Noble last summer and asked for recommendations for [name redacted] who was just out of 6th grade and everything was teen romance or violent. I’m just said thank you and walked away in disgust.


the teen section in Barnes and Nobles answers all the questions of what’s going on with our youth. Terrible it’s the offerings of literature.


Scholastic is known for this kind of propaganda! They have a book reading “contest” in public schools that includes a transgender book… group of kids are ages 3rd to 5th grade…we preview everything unless explicitly gospel based. So sad that children are being sexualized so young!


😤😤😤 my oldest daughter was in 4th grade when she brought a book home from public school that you read the first couple of chapters and then skipped around the rest of the book for various endings. One of the endings was a very detailed description of how you committed suicide. The librarian was a Christian woman. Who’s sister had committed suicide. She took the book and destroyed.


Scholastic just had an entire month of celebrating LGBTQIA+ with a myriad of pride books.


My daughter is in 1st grade and ordered a book from Scholastic called The Prince and The Knight.They fell in love and got married

I spoke to a friend who teaches in public school in my area in Folsom Cordova USD. She is a strong conservative Christian. She said in that district for next year, this curriculum is SUPPLEMENTAL which means she can or does not have to implement a thing ( to which she said she will NOT) after that she does not know, and will resign if forced. We are going to lose GOOD TEACHERS over this, and have nothing left but loonie liberals. It is CRUCIAL for parents to ask directly in districts that have not mandated, but given supplemental rights, the teacher what they plan to do or not do with this curriculum the next year.


“Supplemental.” Hmm. That means, at the very least, that the proverbial foot is in the door. This agenda will not be satisfied to settle for being only a supplement. They want first door in the the line-up!

Oak Park is a very small district and has been considered a model school district in the area… which is now unfortunate because other neighboring districts will use this curriculum as a model for their schools


Surprise, surprise! When will parents begin the revolution? Really, this is okay??? Don’t allow this. If the majority walked out, things would have to change!

As many know, AB 493 sailed through the Senate Ed Committee on Weds. 6 YES votes including Republican Scott Wilk, District 21 (Santa Clarita, Lancaster, Hesperia). My Senator, Ling Ling Chang, R, District 29, abstained, and this was after I met with her and staff.

Before 493 goes to the Senate, it must pass through the Senate Appropriations Committee. This could happen as early as August 12, which is the first day (Monday) of the last session of 2019, Aug 12-Sept 13. If it passes in the Senate, it will return to the Assembly. All of this must happen before Sept 13 when Sacramento will recess until January, 2020.

Pat Bates (Dist 36) and Brian Jones (38) are the two Republicans on the Appropriations Committee. The others are Portantino, Chair (25), Bradford (35), Durazo (24) Hill (13), and Wieckowski (10). I spent Weds afternoon in Pat Bates’ office discussing the situation with a staff member. Yesterday, I called a staffer for John Moorlach.

Most critical is that we talk to all Republicans to be sure they know that we expect them to be present with a NO vote. Trying to gain an additional 10 NO votes in the Senate seems to be a virtual impossibility but we must make the effort. The best way would be to approach your Senator at a townhall event, meet with her/him during the recess, try to engage a staff member. Then there’s the Assembly members. Use this opportunity to meet your state representatives. View this as preparation for the reintroduction of SB 673 in January.
